"TikTok made me buy it" isn't a meme — it's an economy. TikTok drives an enormous share of product discovery, and Amazon affiliates who figure out the platform's link limitations can turn viral moments into real commissions. The catch: TikTok gives you almost nowhere to put a clickable link. Your entire strategy has to be built around that constraint.
This guide covers the complete setup: the bio link, video descriptions, the global-audience problem, and how to track which videos actually earn.
The One Link in Your Bio
Your TikTok bio holds the only clickable link on your profile. Everything else — every video, every description — funnels toward it. Treat that single slot like the valuable real estate it is.
To add a website link to your bio, you'll need a business account (switch in Settings — it's free and doesn't meaningfully change how your content performs). Once that's on, you get a website field under Edit Profile. Put your highest-leverage destination there.
What should that destination be? You have two honest options:
- A link-in-bio page holding smart links for everything you promote. Best if you cover many products and want every video to stay shoppable forever.
- A single smart link for the product you're pushing right now. Best if you go deep on one product at a time — swap it when you move on.
Either way, don't put a raw amazon.com link in your bio. A raw link only serves one country's store — and as we'll cover below, your TikTok audience is not one country.
Video Descriptions: Links Aren't Clickable
This trips up every new affiliate: URLs in TikTok video descriptions are not clickable. Pasting "https://amazon.com/…" under your video does nothing except look spammy.
The playbook that works instead:
- Say "link in bio" in the video itself — out loud or as on-screen text. Viewers follow verbal instructions far better than description text.
- Repeat it in the description ("🔗 Link in bio") so the instruction is there when they look.
- Pin a comment with the same direction. Pinned comments get read; buried descriptions often don't.
Every video should end with the viewer knowing exactly where the link lives. One clear call to action beats three confusing ones.
Why TikTok Traffic Is Global
The For You page doesn't respect borders. A product review you filmed for a US audience can blow up in Canada, the UK, Australia, or anywhere else overnight — that's the whole point of the algorithm.
So the same problem Pinterest affiliates face hits TikTok affiliates harder and faster: a Canadian viewer taps your bio link, lands on amazon.com with your US tracking ID, and you earn nothing. If a chunk of your audience sits outside the US, a single-country link is leaking commissions on your best-performing videos — the exact videos you'd most want to monetize fully.
The fix is the same as on any platform: a geo-routing smart link that detects each visitor's country per click and sends them to their country's Amazon store with your tracking ID for that store. One link in your bio, working for every country your videos reach.
One link. Every country. Your tag.

Try it freeOne Smart Link vs. Swapping Per Video
A practical question: should your bio hold one link you swap out, or a page of many links?
Swap one link (simple, focused)
Create one smart link per product with a custom name (e.g. /viral-lamp), and point your bio at whichever product your current videos push. When you move on, update the bio. Simple to manage, and every click goes to exactly one product — which converts well.
Link-in-bio page (evergreen, scalable)
Put a page of smart links in your bio so old videos keep earning. A viewer discovering your three-month-old video still finds a working, geo-routed link. More setup, but nothing ever goes stale.
Most affiliates start with the single swapped link and graduate to the page once they have a catalog of videos. Both work — pick the one you'll actually maintain.
QR Codes On-Screen for Lives and Videos
Here's a tactic most TikTok affiliates underuse: put a QR code on screen. During lives, product demos, or "shop with me" videos, an on-screen QR code lets viewers scan and land on the product instantly — no bio detour, no remembering to check later.
GeoAffiliate generates a QR code for every smart link (one click, downloadable as a PNG), and the QR routes exactly like the link — scanned in Toronto, it opens amazon.ca with your Canadian tag. Drop it in the corner of a live, hold it up in a video, or add it to your thumbnail workflow.
Track Which Videos Drive Clicks
Posting into the void is how affiliates burn out. You need to know which videos earn, so you can make more of what works.
Tag each smart link with its source when you create it — "tiktok" for bio links, or even per-campaign tags if you're testing. Your analytics then break clicks down by source, so you can compare TikTok against Pinterest, YouTube, or email, and see which videos deserve a part two. Vanity metrics (views, likes) tell you what entertained people; click analytics tells you what sold.
A Note on TikTok Shop
TikTok Shop is TikTok's own affiliate program — a separate thing from Amazon Associates, with its own products, commissions, and rules. Nothing in this guide conflicts with it; plenty of creators do both. Just know which program each link belongs to, and disclose accordingly: Amazon links need the standard "As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases" disclosure wherever you place them.
Put It Together: The Checklist
- Switch to a TikTok business account and add your website link.
- Create one smart link per product (paste any Amazon URL — short links work too).
- Put your link — or a link-in-bio page of smart links — in your bio.
- Say "link in bio" in every product video, in the description, and in a pinned comment.
- Use on-screen QR codes for lives and demos.
- Tag links "tiktok" and check analytics weekly to see what's earning.
Full disclosure: GeoAffiliate is our own product — we built it for exactly this workflow. One paste, one smart link, geo-routed to every country your For You page reaches. Single 302 redirect per click, referrer preserved, always your own tag on a genuine Amazon URL. Free for your first 10 links; $8/month flat when you're ready for unlimited.
TikTok Affiliate Mistakes to Avoid
Putting a raw amazon.com link in your bio
The most common setup — and it silently drops every international viewer. A geo-routing smart link costs nothing extra and captures the clicks you're already getting.
Changing your bio link without telling anyone
If you swap the bio link to a new product, old videos pointing at "link in bio" now mislead. Either keep a link-in-bio page so everything stays valid, or accept that swapped links orphan old videos.
Skipping disclosure
"Link in bio" doesn't disclose anything. Amazon requires clear affiliate disclosure — put "As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases" in your profile or video descriptions, not just in a comment nobody reads.
Judging videos by views instead of clicks
A million views with no bio taps earned nothing. Track clicks per source and optimize for the videos that convert, not just the ones that entertain.
